Record Year for Taiwan’s amusement parks
According to Taiwan Tourism Bureau Director-General Janice Lai both visitor numbers and revenue represented increased by 20% in 2010, with a record high of 9.8 million people visiting Taiwan's 24 amusement parks. Total amusement park revenue reached NT$6.2 billion (US$214 million).
With the booming tourism and convenient transport network, Lai is optimistic that more people will come to Taiwan in 2011, and that visits to amusement parks will also increase, stating "because this year's Lunar New Year vacation is relatively short and the weather is pretty cold, many people have decided to travel domestically instead of going abroad (but) we are well-prepared."
Taiwan Amusement Park Association Chairman Chu Chung-hong explains that the country's 24 legally registered amusement parks in total, with still more applying "want to provide quality entertainment" removing the need for Taiwanese "to travel abroad."
According to the TaiwanTourism Bureau, during last year's Lunar New Year holiday, the number of visitors to amusement parks reached 820,000 in eight days while 700,000 visitors are expected to visit over this year's six-day vacation.
