Queensland Academy of Sport to double funding for swimming

Queensland Academy of Sport to double funding for swimming
October 7, 2021

The Queensland Academy of Sport is to double its funding for swimming in Queensland to $4 million aiming to deliver better access to talent identification and high-performance services. Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) will work closely with Swimming Australia at new high-performance hubs in Brisbane and the Gold and Sunshine Coasts.

Queensland Sport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe notes “we want to give talented young Queensland swimmers their best shot at a medal on the world stage by recognising their skill and fast-tracking access to high-performance services.

“High-performance hubs will enhance the winning services available to swimmers including sport sciences, physiotherapy, nutritionists and psychologists.

“As we head to Paris, Los Angeles and the Brisbane 2032 Games, QAS is looking forward to working collaboratively with Swimming Queensland and Swimming Australia to drive more medal winning success.”

Minister Hinchliffe added that the QAS partnership with Swimming Queensland would remain incredibly important and commented “our partnership with Swimming Queensland will continue to help to identify great swimming talent and help with coaching talent across the State.

“Funding to Swimming Queensland hasn’t been cut, it remains the same as was in place for the Rio and Tokyo Olympic cycles, but now with better access to expert performance services.

“Our aim is to provide every athlete with the opportunity to succeed and inspire Queenslanders.”
