Qudos Bank Arena named in world’s top six performing venues

Qudos Bank Arena named in world’s top six performing venues
November 1, 2017

Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena has been ranked sixth on a global list of the world’s top performing venues and arenas over the past 15 years based on the number of concerts and ticket sales.

The ranking, in the highly competitive 15,000 plus venue capacity category, by internationally respected industry authority, Venues Today, is baed on performance from 1st July 2002 to 31st May 2017.

Qudos Bank Arena has been operated for the past 10 years by AEG Ogden, the leading venue management company in the Asia Pacific, on behalf of its owner TEG.  The report also confirmed the number one ranked venue in the world was The O2 in London, also managed by AEG.

During the 15 year period, Qudos Bank Arena hosted an impressive 880 concerts attended by 6,801,445 fans along with a further 276 events such as UFC, WWE, Monster Trucks, NBL basketball, netball and business events, bringing the overall total to 1,156 events attended by 9,635,816 people.

Explaining how Qudos Bank Arena continually punches above its weight on the world stage, AEG Ogden Chairman and Chief Executive Harvey Lister said this a great result for AEG Ogden and the venue team led by Steve Hevern that deliver events week in and week out.

Sharing how Qudos Bank Arena was adequately serving the needs of both Sydney and NSW, Lister stated “while we always knew concert tickets sales in Sydney were strong, we are extremely encouraged by the growing number of fans coming from outer and regional areas.

“Interestingly, 85% of ticket sales at Qudos Bank Arena came from the Greater Sydney area, with the rest coming from regional NSW, interstate and international guests.

“That’s almost 1.5 million visitors coming to Sydney over that 15 year period to attend events at Qudos Bank Arena, delivering significant economic benefits to a range of businesses and the State overall.”

“Actual ticket sales within Sydney are reasonably evenly spread (relative to the percentage of population) across North, CBD/East, South and West sectors of Greater Sydney, clearly proving that the Sydney Olympic Park precinct is indeed the centre of where people in Sydney live.

“And with the NSW Government committed to spending on important public infrastructure projects at the Sydney Olympic Park precinct, it can only help to improve accessibility for patrons from across the Greater Sydney Region.”

Lister said AEG Ogden continued to work closely not only with the promoters of major touring artists but with AEG’s own global network of 130 plus venues across five continents to ensure certainty of world-class entertainment for Sydney.

He also said the demand for major indoor sport in Sydney, typified by the successful return of the Sydney Kings to Olympic Park as well as the strong growth in the number of national netball games at Qudos Bank Arena, augured well for the future.

Lister added “the remaining three months of the year will be particularly busy with 40 major shows confirmed at the venue, including Drake, Take That, The Weeknd, Paul McCartney, Cirque du Soleil’s ‘Toruk’, AUS X Open, UFC and a number of Sydney Kings NBL home games.

“And when you look at 2018 already with 15 huge sellouts of three of the world’s biggest concert acts – Katy Perry, P!NK and Bruno Mars - it tells us ‘come, and Sydney will come’.”

Other superstar acts on sale or confirmed at the Arena next year include Queen & Adam Lambert, Robbie Williams, Roger Waters, Neil Diamond, Lionel Richie, Fall Out Boy, Harry Styles, The Killers, Niall Horan, Mrs Brown’s Boys and PBR.
