Puffing Billy Railway launch virtual tours during COVID-19 closure
Puffing Billy Railway have launched a series of free virtual tours delivering a behind-the-scenes look at the history, projects and people who continue to preserve Australia’s premier steam railway.
With travel plans on hold at the moment and with the temporary closure of Puffing Billy, the virtual tours transport guests from their living rooms to Puffing Billy’s real life heritage railway.
The tours commenced last Friday 1st May and viewers can connect, explore and learn more about the 119-year-old narrow gauge railway, meet some of the friendly faces who make up and maintain the railway or keep up-to-date with works and projects being carried out safely during this time.
It could be a visit to the locomotive workshop or Menzies Creek Museum, a chance to meet a train driver or fireman and learn more about their roles, an up-close-and-personal look at the flora and fauna of the Dandenong Ranges, or jumping on board the diesel-hauled train for a trackwork trip along the line.
Puffing Billy Railway Chief Executive, Steve O’Brien advised “in today’s current landscape and the new ways in which we are socially interacting, digital tools and technologies are shaping how we live and learn. This is a great opportunity for us to share Puffing Billy’s story and showcase this much-loved tourist attraction in a new light.”
