Programs and registrations launch for 2018 National Sports Convention
March 19, 2018

The organisers of the National Sports Convention have announced the opening of registrations for its 2018 edition and release of the online conference programs including:

• Global Keynote Speakers;
• National Community Sport Conference;
• National Aquatic and Recreation Infrastructure Conference;
• National Sports Surfaces Conference;
• National Sports Development Conference.

The 2018 National Sports Convention will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from 16th 18th July and this year will host additional conferences, networking events and new collaborators.

A series of additional conferences programs and networking events will be released over the coming weeks, including:

• National Disability Sports Conference (developed by Disability Sport and Recreation Victoria)
• Gymnastics Leading Clubs Conference (developed by Gymnastics Victoria)

All of the Conference Programs will share access to the Global Keynote Speakers each morning before dispersing to their own specialised conference, and then re-join both days for networking opportunities at the refreshment breaks, as well as the Industry Awards and Networking Evening on Tuesday 17th July in the Community Sport and Recreation Expo.

It is expected that there will be more than 800 delegates for the conferences, making this the largest community sport and active recreation conference in Australia.

The opening Global Keynote Session explores ‘Behavioural Change to Understand how to Increase Participation’. Understanding the stages of the behavioural change continuum may be a game changer for our industry in developing strategies, campaigns and offering opportunities to encourage more people to be active and ensure sustainability. Opening Global Keynote presentations include:

• Thinking Clearly About Behaviour: Theory to Reality for a More Active Nation – Translating theoretical behaviour change frameworks into on-the-ground programs can be a challenge. This presentation will distil abstract concepts into concise steps that underpin successful program design. Kevin Luten, Director - Behaviour Design Works
• Creating a More Active Nation – The vision to increase opportunities to play, recreate and participate in community sport to Australia. Kate Palmer, Chief Executive Officer - Australian Sports Commission
• Creative Learnings to Activate a Broader Female Cohort from the ‘This Girl Can’ Campaign – The learnings to date on changing people behaviours by targeting the Non-Active audience. Jennie Price, Chief Executive - Sport England
• Understanding Peoples Behaviours are Critical for a Successful Campaign – Exploring global and local learnings and campaigns to demonstrate what we need to consider as an industry if we are going to succeed over time. Justin Drape, Chief Creative Officer - The Monkeys
• A Branded House of Fitness and Lifestyle Solutions for Different Cohorts of the Community – How to attract a broader cross section of the community to be more active, fitter and healthier to participate more. Greg Oliver, Chief Executive Officer - Fitness & Lifestyle Group

Following these insights will be a Q&A Panel Session.

Martin Sheppard, Co-Founder of the National Sports Convention, is committed to the knowledge sharing that the NSC 2018 advocates, stating “with the support this year of the Australian Sports Commission, the State and Territory departments of sport and recreation and the dozen community sport and active recreation peak bodies, the programs of the conferences will really share policy and strategies that are aiming to make a generational change.

“Local government, the education sector and community sport will truly see the difference this year, book it in your diary now.”
