Phil Meggs announced as new Chief Executive of the Melbourne Sports Hub

Melbourne Sports Hub has announced the appointment of Phil Meggs to the role of Chief Executive following an exhaustive executive recruitment process following the departure of former postholder Simon Weatherill.

Announcing the appointment, Gaye Hamilton, Chair of the Hub’s governing body, the Victorian State Sport Centres Trust stated "we are delighted to welcome a CEO of Phil’s calibre", says Gaye Hamilton, Chair of the Hub’s governing body, the State Sport Centres Trust.

"His extensive venue and event management, leadership and stakeholder management skills will be a huge asset to the business and ensure all of our venues will continue to operate to a high standard of excellence.

"On behalf of the Trust, I would also like to thank acting CEO Peter Murphy for his leadership during the time of change."

Meggs has extensive industry experience in entertainment, sport and financial management including senior roles at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and Ticketmaster while, since 2007, he had been Chief Executive of Little Real Estate, the largest privately owned real estate business in Australia.

He also has experience as a local councillor for the City of Boroondara and as board member for the Eastern Melbourne region of Regional Development Australia.

A statement from the Melbourne Sports Hub advised "Meggs’ proven team leadership and major project delivery skills, along with his events, venues, community and corporate experience make him the ideal candidate to ensure the Hub’s venues will continue to deliver exceptional service and first-rate facilities to all members of the sporting and local community."

Welcoming his appointment, Meggs stated "I’m extremely excited to have been given this opportunity to work with the outstanding teams across all of the Melbourne Sports Hub venues," says Phil Meggs. "These are great facilities which we will continue to develop to ensure they are the best for everyone in the community, from general users to elite athletes.

"Health and wellness are a critical part of our community and we want to help every person reach their goals by encouraging and supporting participation."

Meggs holds a Bachelor of Business and post-graduate business qualifications, is a Fellow of Leadership Victoria and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and CPA Australia.

Meggs will take up his new role in the middle of April.

Melbourne Sports Hub incorporates some of Melbourne’s largest leading sporting facilities including Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre (MSAC), Lakeside Stadium, the State Netball & Hockey Centre and Sports House. The Hub is home to more than 30 Victorian and national sporting associations and welcomes close to three million visitors each year.
