read moreWith PCYC Gladstone's inaugural Boxing After Dark program having attracted an impressive turnout of Gladstone youth, the statewide Boxing After Dark program will now be a regular feature every Tuesday and Thursday night throughout the school term.
Held at PCYC Gladstone, the program is free for young people aged 12 to 18 and is not only a fun way to spend the evening, but it is also proving to be highly effective in helping manage aggression, building rapport and fostering positive relationships between police and youth.
Sergeant Dominic Richardson from PCYC Gladstone was thrilled with the turnout during the first session and is excited to see it grow.
Sergeant Richardson shared "We're eagerly anticipating seeing our numbers swell and welcoming back familiar faces.
"This program embodies positive community engagement with a focus on youth crime prevention.
"Even after the first session you can see the difference in the attitude of the kids.
"Being able to harness that energy and aggression and channel it into something positive can have a lasting effect on their lives."
Boxing After Dark is just one of 30 After Dark programs delivered statewide, which collectively have 450 participants.
Gladstone's Boxing program is just one of many new After Dark programs, with many more scheduled to launch in locations across Queensland.
