Our Sporting Future Conference opens on the Gold Coast
The Gold Coast is hosting the Our Sporting Future Conference 2015 (OSF15) this week, bringing together chief executives, general managers and sports administrators to examine the issues, challenges and opportunities facing Australian sport.
Being held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre from 21st to 23rd October, the Australian Sports Commission’s biennial conference has been welcomed to the region by Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate, who is keen to establish the Gold Coast's sporting credentials.
Mayor Tate stated "as an emerging sports capital, the Gold Coast is the ideal location for this conference."
Gold Coast Tourism Chief Executive Martin Winter said the organisation welcomed the opportunity to play a part in attracting this significant conference to the city.
Winter explained "the Gold Coast really is gaining broad appeal as an ideal business events destination, and with the city’s close alignment to the world of sport, it’s now a logical choice for sporting organisations to choose the Gold Coast.
“The decision comes at a time when the Gold Coast is gearing up to host the largest sporting event Australia will see this decade as the host of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.”
In advance of OSF15, Australian Sports Commission (ASC) Chief Executive Simon Hollingsworth stated "we all know that Australian sport must adapt to a rapidly changing landscape to remain strong, viable and successful in a challenging and competitive environment.
"It’s an exciting time for Australian sport as we work together to deliver Play.Sport.Australia., the ASC’s game plan for driving greater participation and growth in sport. A key component of Play.Sport.Australia. is the Sporting Schools program — a major initiative focused on giving Australian children direct access to sport.
"Our vision is to see more Australians, particularly children, playing sport more often and helping to build better sporting organisations.
"Ultimately, we’re looking to build a strong and sustainable Australian sporting system.
"To this end, OSF15 will provide delegates with a chance to discuss and address some of these key issues, challenges and opportunities that impact Australia’s sporting future."
