Organisers announce completion of all Pyeongchang Winter Olympics venues

Organisers announce completion of all Pyeongchang Winter Olympics venues
October 26, 2017

Organisers of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics have completed construction of all competition and non-competition venues.

Advising of the completion ahead of the start of the Olympic torch relay earlier this week, PyeongChang Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Organising Committee (POCOG) President Lee Hee Beom stated “I can announce that as of today all competition and non-comp venues are complete.”

The Reuters news agency noted that Games organisers had previouslu fallen behind on work at some facilities, such as hotels and event venues, leading to a late rush to ensure all sites were ready. With less than four months to go before the start of the Games, work has now been finished and attention will now turn to ensuring the smooth delivery of the event.

Lee advised “I can announce that as of today all competition and non-comp venues are complete.

“We want to ensure they (athletes) have their time of their life with the best facilities possible. We are well on the road to achieving that.

“Infrastructure including the high-speed rail (connecting PyeongChang with Incheon airport) and highways are already done. We will be the biggest winter Games ever and we aim to be the most athlete-focused.”

Tensions with North Korea have seen poor ticket sales for the Games which run from 9th to 25th February next year.
