Orangetheory Fitness opens 17th Australian studio

Orangetheory Fitness opens 17th Australian studio
September 6, 2019

Having opened nine new studios in the past 12 months, Orangetheory Fitness has launched its latest gym - its 17th in Australia - in the Sydney suburb of Miranda.

With ongoing plans to open new 10 studios each year, for the next three years, Orangetheory Fitness has firmly established its foothold in Australia’s boutique fitness market as the science-backed, technology-tracked, coach-inspired group workout that generates real, measurable results for members.

With the latest opening by the rapidly-expanding boutique fitness brand, members will be able to enjoy an innovative style of fitness class, utilising leading fitness technology and coaches to push attendees to get their heart rate in the ‘orange zone’ for a minimum of 12 minutes. The science of excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC) says that by doing so, the body will continuously burn calories more than traditional exercise for up to 36-hours post workout.

Orangetheory Fitness Miranda is one of the first studios internationally to roll out ‘OT Connect’ technology, a cutting-edge fitness tracking platform that displays a variety of real-time performance metrics on a screen directly in front of attendees. As firm believers in ‘you can’t improve what you don’t measure,’ Orangetheory created this technology as a way to personalise trainings and hold members accountable.

OT Connect is part of a connected fitness ecosystem that communicates with the equipment, Orangetheory proprietary HR devices, and the mobile app to track distance and speed on the treadmill, watts, meters and strokes per minute on the rower and all-around calories burned, heart rate metrics and our signature ‘splat points’ that measure personalised progress. Further, it displays the metrics of past workouts directly next to current measurements allowing members to compare their results and verify they are improving. Once the workout is complete, OT Connect syncs directly to the mobile app.

The new Miranda studio fitted out with the OT Connect technology reveals Orangetheory Fitness’ growing popularity as both new member rates and reciprocal usage rates across studios are increasing.

Rob Hale, Orangetheory Fitness Australia General Manager is excited to provide Miranda residents with a fitness option to suit their busy lifestyles, commenting “this expansion comes at a necessary time as, while Australians are becoming more aware of their health, their schedules are becoming increasingly busier.

“Orangetheory Fitness is the fix they need, providing a challenging workout paired with innovative technology that removes the guesswork and allows members to workout smarter, not harder.

“Reciprocal usage across studios has increased by 15%, revealing that by providing members greater access to more studios in their network, they are able to exercise at a time and place that best suits their lifestyle.”

Since its inception in the US, Orangetheory Fitness is taking the world by storm with over 1200 studios open internationally, 850,000 members worldwide and zero closures ever.

Within Australia, the Orangetheory franchise network has seen financial success. Each studio sees an average of 30% YoY membership growth and expansion initiated from current franchisees looking to broaden their personal portfolios, as well as spread the wealth by onboarding friends and family.

Orangetheory Fitness will continue seeking expansion opportunities and bringing more studios to more locations so members are provided additional access to the workout.
