Nude bathing to be ended at last clothing optional beach in Melbourne
Nude bathing will be banned at Campbells Cove in Melbourne’s west from 1st September after Wyndham City Council said the beach is too close to the growing residential suburb of Point Cook.
Announcing the end of 29 years of nude bathing at Melbourne’s last metropolitan nude beach, Victorian Planning Minister Richard Wynne stated “(Point Cook) is a massive growth area and urban growth is clashing with the nudist beach.
“It’s now an area for families.”
While there have been no reports of controversial activity at the beach, urban growth is the reason behind the nudity ban.
Australian Sex Party leader Fiona Patten has condemned the move saying that the number of places for nudists are already limited in Victoria. Patten sees that growing pressure for more clothing-optional beaches means the ban should be overturned.
Patten stated “there is nothing more beautiful and natural than the human body, so what exactly is the minister trying to protect people from?
“The planning minister and Wyndham City Council are being wowsers – plain and simple.”
Victoria’s nudists can still make use of the beaches at Torquay and Lorne.
