Community sports and active recreation organisations in are set to benefit over $700,000 in grant funding announced by Northern Territory Tourism and Culture Minister Lauren Moss.
The Facility and Capital Equipment (FACE) Grant Program provides up to $100,000 in funds to eligible organisations for infrastructure and equipment that supports physical activity and community wellbeing, with flow on benefits for local businesses and local job creation.
The sport and active recreation organisations to benefit from the 2018/19 Grant Program, include the Humpty Doo and Rural Golf Club. The Club is receiving a $100,000 grant upgrade which includes plans to build-in the existing veranda area to develop an air-conditioned area for club functions and allow the Club to host multiple events at one time.
Another recipient, the Atyemhenge Atherre Aboriginal Corporation, received $100,000 to grass and irrigate the Santa Teresa Oval. These works will include the installation of an irrigation system, refurbishment of the existing water storage tank, repair and replacement of associated water supply infrastructure and preparing and maintaining the oval with grass.
Commenting on the funding, Minister Moss stated “sport and recreation facilities are important for growing and connecting our communities. These grants allow organisations to increase opportunities for Territorians to participate, increasing levels of physical activity for community wellbeing."
This project will create an inviting space for a range of sports to increase participation across the Central Desert Region, supporting healthy lifestyles in the region.
FACE grants are available annually for planning, building new and improving existing sport and active recreation facilities in the Northern Territory. The next round will be open July 2019.
