read moreThe NSW Government has recently approved a commerciality framework to guide the business decisions of the state’s biggest sports and entertainment facilities, including ANZ Stadium, Allianz Stadium and the Sydney Cricket Ground.
The framework applies to the network of NSW Government-owned stadia, which includes metropolitan and regional venues operated by the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust and Venues NSW.
Michael Toohey, Office of Sport (NSW) acting Executive Director, says the commerciality framework provides a great opportunity to maximise the commercial return on the NSW Government’s investment, explaining “the opportunity for each of the NSW Government-owned stadia to work together to explore commercial advantages will produce an event-day experience for fans that is unmatched anywhere else in Australia.”
The approval of the commerciality framework follows the NSW Government’s recent investment commitments of $1.6 billion in stadia infrastructure.
The framework allows the facilities to operate both individually and as part of a network, and outlines key principles to be considered with management practice across the network.
Toohey added “our focus is to work with all the venues operators to apply the framework in a way that works for them, and achieves the economic and social benefits that a vibrant a sports and entertainment culture can offer.
“If there’s an opportunity to coordinate strategic directions, or improve the financial performance of the stadia network, this framework allows all the NSW Government-owned venues to cooperate and maximise the benefits.”
The Office of Sport will now begin a detailed benchmarking exercise to assess the current performance of both the NSW Government-owned stadia network and individual venues.
