read moreThe unwavering support of equipment supplier NovoFit and Genesis Health + Fitness along with 1,037 participants and 35 treadmills resulted in almost $950,000 raised in just 24 hours for Very Special Kids.
With the treadmills generously donated by NovoFit and Genesis, the 24-hour treadmill challenge held on 30th-31st May was a huge success, with the funds raised helping to provide palliative care for children and support for their families.
Behind the scenes, the NovoFit team worked tirelessly to install, service, clean and polish the treadmills, maintaining them throughout the 24 hours while the DJ pumped music and the heart rates soared.
With each participant required to run, jog or walk for at least 30 minutes, a party atmosphere kept everyone going with food, dancing, games, prizes and celebrity appearances.
A true community effort, the challenge was also boosted by media coverage including a 3AW live broadcast, Channel 9 News, and a live cross on the Today Show as the event wrapped up.
Together, NovoFit and Genesis have been supporting Very Special Kids since their first major fundraiser in 2012, and Tim Horskins, NovoGroup Chief Executive wouldn’t have it any other way.
Horskins shared “the event was such a great atmosphere to be a part of, and we are over the moon at the amount of funds raised. Our dedicated team on site ensured the treadmills stood up to 24 hours of non-stop motion, which of course allowed the participants to get the job done.
“This is an amazing result that helps Very Special Kids continue their critical work in ensuring that every seriously ill child and their families are supported every step of their journey, through life, death and bereavement.
“A special shout out to the local Genesis clubs including Lilydale, Ringwood and Wantirna who loaned 18 treadmills, and of course I’d like to acknowledge all of the donors, participants and the wider community for getting behind Very Special Kids.”
Very Special Kids expressed their gratitude to Novofit and Genesis after the event - “Thank you for stepping up to take on the 24-Hour Treadmill Challenge. You helped keep our treadmills in non-stop motion for 24 hours, and you brought such heart and dedication; we are deeply touched.
“And more importantly, together our very special community has already raised over $940,000, which will help provide 24-hour care for hundreds of seriously ill children, and vital support and services for their families. On behalf of Very Special Kids, and the families we support, thank you!”
Novofit and Genesis look forward to continuing to support this important cause, with hopes that funds raised next year will topple this year’s results.
