Nominations open for 2018 Western Australian Sport and Recreation Industry Awards
May 10, 2018

Western Australian Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray has announced that entries are now open for the State’s 2018 Sport and Recreation Industry Awards.

Honouring Western Australia's best in sport and recreation, the awards celebrate programs, initiatives and projects that encourage people of all ages to be active and participate in community sport and recreation.

Held every two years, the awards are open to all organisations that provide sport and recreation services and participation opportunities, including sporting associations, local governments and commercial organisations.

Entries can be submitted in the following categories:

• Organisational Excellence Award;
• Commitment to Participation Award;
• Places and Spaces: Planning and Design Award;
• Supporting Volunteers Award;
• Regional Excellence Award;
• Event of the Year Award (Professional Event and Community Event subcategories);
• True Sport Award;
• Leadership Award; and
• Innovation in Practice Award.

The Minister's Award for Industry Excellence ($5,000) will be awarded to one of the category winners.

In addition, the John Graham Award will once again recognise a person who has contributed exceptional service to the sport and recreation industry over time.

Announcing the 2018 Awards program, Minister Murray advised "I urge all eligible sport and recreation organisations to nominate for these awards, and showcase the quality of work being done here in Western Australia.

"This is a chance to honour the people behind the programs who do outstanding work, and don't often get the chance to stand up and take a bow.

"The awards recognise the people working to make sport and recreation better in our communities, acknowledging those who are leaders in their fields, from volunteering to events to planning and design."

The winners will be announced at the Sport and Recreation Industry Awards' presentation breakfast at Optus Stadium on Wednesday 8th August 2018.

The awards are supported by the Government of Western Australia, WA Sports Federation, Parks and Leisure Australia (WA), Outdoors WA and LIWA Aquatics.

Applications are open until 9pm on Wednesday 13th June 2018.
