read moreIn an Australian first, News Corp Australia is teaming up with Water Polo Australia as part of a national live streaming and broadcast partnership.
The deal will see the Australian Waterpolo League (AWL) and Australian Youth Water Polo Championships (AYWPC) live streamed across the News Corp Australia mastheads, with delayed replays of the AWL finals and the Australia Green v Gold Exhibition Series shown on KAYO.
Across the two major events more than 140 water polo matches will be streamed.
Brisbane will host both events, with the Australian Waterpolo League to be held 31st March to 7th April and Australian Youth Water Polo Championships from 7th to 17th April 2021.
Advising that the deal with News Corp is the most comprehensive broadcast partnership in the sport’s history, Water Polo Australia Chief Executive, Richard McInnes stated “we are excited to be partnering with News Corp for our marquee events to deliver more live water polo than ever before.
“Not only does News Corp offer a great platform for water polo fans, but it provides us with a unique opportunity to reach new fans as part of a fully integrated media solution.
“To have the ability to stream live more than 140 games with replays across leading dedicated sports broadcaster KAYO, gives us the chance to showcase the very best of our sport from the grassroots clubs competition through to our elite, including our Australian Olympic squad members,” he said.
News Corp's Executive Editor of Digital, Bryce Johns, said it was the first national streaming partnership the publishing division had done.
Johns noted “water polo is a progressive sport and streaming is a great innovation in the publishing world. It's a match made in heaven.''
The games will stream across The Courier-Mail, The Australian, The Daily Telegraph, The Herald-Sun and Adelaide's The Advertiser, plus many of the company's regional websites.
