New Zealand Rugby League acknowledged as sport’s fittest code

New Zealand Rugby League acknowledged as sport’s fittest code
November 15, 2013

Strength and conditioning coaches from the New Zealand Rugby League have won Blue Fitness' inaugural 'Code v Code Cardio Challenge', conducted during last week's Australian Strength and Conditioning conference at the MCG.

The 'Code v Code Cardio Challenge' saw athletes and coaches put through activity on advanced and unique Cardio machines: one minute on the Rope Flex and one minute on the Jacobs Ladder.

Across the codes that took part Shannan Reedy, rugby league Strength and Conditioning coach at Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology came out on top with a total of 93.5 metres (55.7 metres on the Ropeflex and 37.7 metres on the Jacobs ladder).

Coaches from codes as diverse as power-lifting, touch rugby, surf lifesaving, triathlon and ice hockey competed alongside the traditional Australasian sports codes while a few of the suppliers also had a go - surprising many of the coaches with their ability.

Blue Fitness Code v Code Cardio Challenge Leader Board

1. Shannan  - rugby league (New Zealand) 93.57 metres
2. Peter - ice hockey 90.2 metres
3. Jason - sevens rugby (New Zealand) 89.9 metres
4. Shane - Blue Fitness (supplier) 89.6 metres
5. Bobby - Flight Centre (supplier) 87.1 metres
6. Campbell - touch rugby 85.6 metres

Blue Fitness is now challenging others who think they can do better to send in their results along with pictures, videos, name, code and/or fitness club.

Blue Fitness will post the results on its Facebook page.

Commenting on the results, Blue Fitness Key Accounts and Marketing Manager for Australia Simon Hall wondered "will the New Zealand Rugby League team now show itself to be the best in the Rugby League World Cup?"

Blue Fitness is the exclusive supplier of the RopeFlex, Jacob Ladder and Woodway treadmills all exhibited at the ASCA conference.
