New Swim Schools Peak Industry Body opens memberships
The Australian Swim Schools Association Ltd (ASSA) has this week opened for Member Swim School applications - with membership commencing from the 1st July.
The newly formed peak body is uniquely and solely focused on Swim Schools with Swim Schools to be its the voting members.
Starting off with a group of highly successful Swim Schoolers (representing various sizes, types and locations) as voluntary Directors, Committee members and Special Interest Group leaders, the soon to be operational not-for-profit body will be “by Swim Schools for Swim Schools”.
ASSA is also forming key strategic alliances are being formed, with the first already in place with the USA based Safer 3 Water Safety Foundation.
To help Swim Schools ‘grow’, a wide range of first class Specialist Advisors and services have been assembled - and will be progressively added to.
The ASSA Board has listened to feedback and reacted by offering tiered membership alternatives with payment options.
A statement from ASSA explains “ASSA understands that there has been significant confusion out there in the swim school industry since ASCTA (the Australian Swim Coaches and Teachers Association) terminated, in December 2015, Aussie Aquatics license to trade as Swim Australia when registering and servicing swim schools.
“ASSA understands that ASCTA will use their ‘Swim Australia’ trademark as their brand to register swim schools - as is their prerogative. Since the termination, Aussie Aquatics continued to service the swim schools it registered.
“As that registration period comes to an end, Aussie Aquatics will withdraw from that space - handing over any of its relevant information and the like to ASSA.
“ASSA apologies for any role it has played in the confusion. Rightly or wrongly, the steering committee that came together earlier in the year to establish ASSA, felt that it was best not to announce its plans until closer to the time it was ready to ‘launch’. The thought was that to do so, without much ‘meat on the bones’ at that time, would only add to the confusion.
“ASSA is delighted though that Swim Schools can now become Members of their own industry body. ASSA encourage Swim Schools to choose this option; and certainly understand that this may be an and/or if you also choose to align with Austswim by being a ‘recognised’ swim school and/or ASCTA-SA by being a ‘registered’ swim school.”
While ASSA’s website is under construction, membership inquiries can be emailed to: Nicala.Harris@swimschoolsaust.com.au
