read moreQueensland Treasurer and Minister for Sport Curtis Pitt has opened the $7.16 million redevelopment of the Sunshine Coast Recreation Centre in Currimundi.
With two new accommodation blocks offering 28 rooms and 168 beds, a revamped alfresco dining area and dining hall and new $263,000 footbridge to enhance beach access to and from the centre, Minister Pitt invited facility schools, organisations, families and community groups to take advantage of the new facilities, accommodation and schedule of activities.
Minister Pitt stated “this redevelopment project has overhauled the entire centre so it can offer completely new activities and services.
“We want to provide even more opportunities for locals and visitors of almost any age and ability to get involved.”
The improvements allow the centre to increase its total occupancy capacity for schools, organisations, sporting and community groups which Minister Pitt believes will open up opportunities for families to stay over weekends and during the school holidays.
He added “to add to these changes, in April this year a suite of new camp packages will be introduced to better cater for groups and their individual needs.
“These will include unlimited facility access, more flexible options, as well as themed and curriculum-based programs for school groups.
“The Sunshine Coast Recreation Centre is now on par with some of Australia’s premier recreation centres, with the added bonus of being located on the doorstep of stunning Currimundi Beach.
“It is a great asset for Queenslanders, from schools, organisations and community groups, through to families looking for a low-cost holiday option.
