New pool of lifeguards qualified in the Pilbara

New pool of lifeguards qualified in the Pilbara
January 12, 2021

16 young Pilbara locals have celebrated the culmination of four months of dedicated training and commitment, earning themselves qualifications to start their careers in the aquatic industry.

Commencing in September 2020, the group embarked on a journey together to pursue a common goal of becoming a lifeguard.

The diverse group reflected a mix of culture with participants of Aboriginal, South African, Chilean, Malaysian, Greek and English heritage coming together in Hedland to complete their training.

Through Royal Life Saving WA’s Talent Pool program, these young achievers each completed their Bronze Medallion, Provide First Aid and Pool Lifeguard qualifications, finishing their final qualifications in December.

Royal Life Saving WA explain “demand for qualified pool lifeguards remains high as aquatic centres see an increase in visitation after the disruptions of COVID-19, so ensuring training courses are available in all regions of Western Australian is vitally important.

“The training for these Talent Pool participants was made possible thanks to support from the Town of Port Hedland and Principal Community Partner BHP. The Talent Pool program provides a springboard for young people to complete accredited training and seek gainful employment in the aquatic industry.”

Royal Life Saving WA congratulated each of the participants on their achievements, noting “we wish them well as they dive into the aquatic industry in pursuit of first-time employment.”
