New Mordialloc Lifesaving Club clubhouse officially opened for summer

New Mordialloc Lifesaving Club clubhouse officially opened for summer
January 20, 2017

The Mordialloc Lifesaving Club’s new $4 million clubhouse was officially opened on 19th December, just in time for summer.

The new two-storey clubhouse is a significant upgrade for the Mordialloc LSC, which has seen a significant increase in its membership, which now excede 600.

Featuring an observation tower, large changing rooms and storage areas as well as function and training rooms the new facility provides more space for club activities and equipment storage. The new building also houses Mordialloc’s Indigenous Gathering Place, which provides the broader community the opportunity to learn about Aboriginal culture and meet with the local Aboriginal community.

The new facility was opened by Victorian Minister for Emergency Services James Merlino who commented “the new Mordialloc lifesaving clubhouse and Indigenous Gathering Place is a well-deserved facility for the local community.”

City of Kingston Mayor David Eden also acknowledged the hard work of Mordialloc LSC members, stating “Mordialloc lifesavers do an incredible job, making sure locals don’t get into trouble at the beach and rescuing them if they do.”

“It is vital they have the resources and facilities they need to keep swimmers safe and this new clubhouse will make a real difference.”

The clubhouse upgrade project was made possible by a $1 million contribution from the Life Saving Victoria Capital Works program, and $2.94 million from the City of Kingston Council.

Mordialloc LSC also raised an impressive $100,000 for the new building through fundraising appeals.

This month marks 70 years since the establishment of the Victorian Centre of the Surf Life Saving Association of Australia, later known as Surf Life Saving Victoria (SLSV).
