New KidZania attraction opens in Singapore
The newly opened KidZania Singapore, at Sentosa Island's Palawan beach, offers children the opportunity to role play as working adults and gain an understanding of how they may want to contribute to society when they grow up.
The latest city to join the world’s fastest growing family edutainment experience, the 7,600 metre² attraction has been developed in consultation with child education experts and supported by real-world brands, to complement school learning experiences.
KidZania Singapore offers 60 role-playing activities in a child-sized city that allows youngsters between the ages of four and 15 to work in a hospital, police station or F&B outlet.
Every KidZania revolves around the concept of role play for children but they all have different characteristics – dependent on local sponsors.
In Singapore, local sponsors include Killiney Kopitiam, Kiss92 and the Singapore Civil Defence Force.
KidZania Singapore Chief Executive William Edwards explains “we learn from the sponsors here and incorporate what we learn into the design of the city, therefore making every KidZania a different KidZania".
Visitors entering KidZania Singapore will be welcomed at a Qatar Airways branded terminal, complete with check-in desks and personnel in the airline’s uniforms.
With the help of ‘Zupervisors’, aspiring ‘pilot’s at KidZania Singapore can experience flying two of Qatar Airways’ flagship aircraft – the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the A380 superjumbo aircraft – using state-of-the-art flight simulators. The flight simulation facility was designed to demonstrate taking off and landing at Qatar Airways’ home base and Singapore’s Changi Airport.
Children can also role-play as Qatar Airways cabin crew, learning how to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers on board. Parents can join in the fun as they role-play as passengers receiving award-winning in-flight hospitality from their little ones.
Of all the 22 KidZania cities worldwide, KidZania Singapore is the only one to showcase the full fuselage of an actual plane within its city.
Developed by Malaysia-based Themed Attractions Resorts & Hotels Sdn Bhd (TARH), the operators are keen to emphasis security in the attraction.
Families and children stepping into KidZania Singapore will be issued wrist tags to ensure that children do not leave the premises unknowingly while specially designed doors are also incorporated into the attractions's design to ensure a safe and child-friendly experience.
Commenting on the expansion, Xavier Lopez Ancona, President and Chief Executive of KidZania, stated “there was a very high demand in Singapore from parents asking for these kinds of places where their children are able to role play and yet stay safe at the same time.”
