New facilities at Tamworth Mountain Bike Park
Tamworth Mountain Bike Park has taken another step toward becoming a fully functioning user-friendly public recreation and sporting facility with the addition of public toilets.
The recently-completed environmentally sound public toilet facilities, designed by Armidale-based company Pureablue specifically for remote areas, are the first of a range of significant improvements for the park on Forest Road, Tamworth.
It is the first of a range of improvements to be undertaken using $165,000 in funding to Tamworth Mountain Bikers through the NSW Government's ClubsGRANTS program.
Work will start soon on installation of picnic shelters, bike stands, event centre shelters, a play park, concrete tricycle path, Mountain Bike Skills Park, sealed park access road, and a 3 kilometre-long cultural trail to promote the indigenous culture of the area and also double as a purpose built-cross country running track.
Tamworth Mayor Col Murray said the park has the potential to be a major public recreation area for members of the local community as well as competitive riders taking part in specific events.
Mayor Murray explained "this park is the only one of its kind in the region and is leading the way for the sport in North West NSW, one of the fastest growing 'green' sports in Australia.
"Tamworth Mountain Bikers is doing some great work to ensure the facility reaches its potential."
Tamworth Mountain Bikers Club President Steve Mair said the park is entering an exciting stage of its development, adding "it will be such a great asset for the community as well as major competitions like the Evocities MTB Series which will be here this Saturday and bring hundreds of riders from across the state."
The park is accessible by foot from the car park adjacent to Forest Road, just past the entry to the Tamworth Waste Management Facility on the opposite side of the road. It is not only for the use of Tamworth Mountain Bikers but can be used by the community at any time.
A number of tracks for different ability levels have been established including one specifically for children near the new toilet facility. Large signs show the route of each track, marked in different colours.
