New ECU China tourism researcher sees opportunities in Western Australia
One of the world’s leading researchers on Chinese tourism has joined Perth’s Edith Cowan University as the institution’s 11th Professorial Research Fellow.
Professor Sam Huang has joined the School of Business and Law from the University of South Australia where he convened the first Australia-China Tourism Forum in 2016.
As a prolific author of more than 100 research publications, Professor Huang keeps close research collaborations with a number of Chinese Universities specialising in tourism including Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou and Beijing International Studies University.
His current research projects focus on resolving challenges faced by industry.
Professor Huang (pictured) hopes to expand research ties with the tourism industry in Western Australia.
He believes tourists from China represent a significant opportunity for the State as it transitions from the mining boom.
China now represents Australia’s second largest inbound tourist market and as such is a significant contributor to the Australian economy according to Professor Huang.
In 2015 ECU announced it was seeking to recruit more than 20 new professors from around the world to rapidly increase research activity and impact.
