Tasmanian Minister for Parks and Environment, Nick Duigan, said the extensive refurbishment and new amenities are a result of the Tasmanian Government’s $7.6 million investment.
Minister Duigan shared “the Gardens are set to become more accessible with works to commence in September to improve the carriageway entrance with the development of an elevated pedestrian path, new lighting and improved disability parking.
The construction of new amenities near the main entrance is also planned to begin in early 2025.
Works will also include a new gift shop, as an improved welcome point for visitors, with a striking new Tasmanian flora collection display.
Daniel Leesong – Royal Tasmania Botanical Gardens Chair said as one of Tasmania’s most loved and visited attractions it is fantastic to see the upgrades underway through the support of the Tasmanian Government.
Minister Duigan added “these planned developments are essential for maintaining and enhancing the Gardens’ status as a premier botanical, cultural and social destination, for visitors and locals alike.
“This important funding ensures the Gardens continue to enrich the visitor experience for generations to come.
“Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is all about making Tasmania the best place to live, work and raise a family. That’s what these upgrades are all about.”
