National Sports Plan Victorian Forum to be held at National Sports Convention
The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) has partnered with Vicsport and the National Sports Convention to host the Victorian Forum on the proposed National Sports Plan, on Wednesday 19th July at the Pullman Albert Park, Melbourne.
The Forum will be one of a series of State-based events held around the country to engage with stakeholders and participants to develop the National Sports Plan for participation and elite sport in Australia announced last month by Federal Minister for Health and Minister for Sport Greg Hunt.
Minister Hunt announced that the Plan will be a long-term strategy for the whole of sport examining four key pillars or participation, performance, preventative health through physical activity and integrity.
With the National Sports Convention already attracting several hundred industry delegates, event organisers have invited key sport, government, recreation, health and education bodies, planners, providers and influencers to be part of the Community Sport Think Tank on the first day of the Convention to focus on how best to encourage and support more Australians in activity.
This Think Tank will now evolve into the Victorian Forum to discuss the development of the National Sports Plan.
Starting at 10am, the morning will include the ASC setting the scene with the latest AusPlay research and explaining the opportunities ahead for growing participation.
There will be a global expert panel question and answer session with the audience, including ASC Chief Executive Kate Palmer; Sport England Chief Executive Jennie Price; Sport New Zealand Chief Executive Peter Miskimmin,; Cathy Jo Noble, Executive Director of Canadian Parks and Recreation Association and Jerril Rechter, Chief Executive of VicHealth.
After lunch, the participants of the Think Tank will have the opportunity to participate in a facilitated forum to identify the audience’s views on what is needed for the National Sports Plan.
The afternoon will finish at approximately 3pm.
The Community Think Tank and National Sports Plan Forum is free, and open to all to attend. Registration also gives participants access to the National Sports Convention Exhibition open on 20th and 21st July.
