Music festival collaboration delivers industry-based training for next generation musicians

Music festival collaboration delivers industry-based training for next generation musicians
May 27, 2025

Returning to Western Australia for the first time in eight years, Triple J's One Night Stand - an all-ages, drug-and-alcohol free festival staged in Busselton at Barnard Park on 24th May, collaborated with The Push - Youth Music Organisation to provide training for eight local young people as the All-Ages Events Team for the Busselton event.

The industry-based training, co-ordinated by The Push in partnership with Triple J, provides a hands-on experience in what it takes to stage a large music event including stage management, technical and sound production, promotion and marketing, video/photography, artist liaison and booking.

The events team training co-ordinated by The Push is funded through a Creative Industries grant. The Push is a national not-for-profit, charitable organisation that aims to give every young person the opportunity to participate and thrive in Australian music.

Heading up the One Night Stand 2025 showcase line-up were Fremantle indie-rockers Spacey Jane, fresh off the back of releasing their third album.

EDM producer LUUDE joined them to keep the dance floor moving, along with singer-songwriter Ruby Fields and award-winning hip hop supergroup 3%.

Local Triple J Unearthed competition winner Fool Nelson also featured at the all-ages music festival.

All ticket proceeds from Triple J's One Night Stand will be donated to Support Act, The Push, Undalup Association and Karri Karrak Aboriginal Corporation.

WA Creative Industries Minister Simone McGurk noted "Triple J's One Night Stand event is a popular event that is held nationwide in different locations throughout Australia.

"The partnership between The Push and Triple J has created a fantastic opportunity for the eight young people selected as the All-Ages Events Team.

"Learning from The Push and Triple J teams, they will be given the opportunity to support the delivery of the event on the day, which is practical experience that will help them recognise music as a viable career pathway.

"Providing crucial firsthand work experience will support those involved to build sustainable careers across the contemporary music sector.

"Enabling young people to experience live music through a well-managed event like this is important, especially for those interested careers in the music industry."
