read moreGoalpost manufacturers the PILA group have refuted claims that just two companies supply portable football goalposts compliant with Australia's mandatory standards for portable football goal posts.
Explaining that the mandatory Australian Standards for portable football/soccer goal posts, AS 4866.1-2007, came into effect as of 31st December 2010, PILA's Russell Farrell states "PILA group were instrumental in working with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) to bring in these regulations.
"These regulations are in place to promote safety in all active play spaces and they ensure that both manufacturers and purchasers hold a duty of care to supply safe portable goals to participants."
PILA Group have issued a statement expressing concerns over a recent report that apparently stated "two companies currently supply Portable Soccer Goals that comply with this new Standard."
PILA contends that "this statement is incorrect and false", going on to state "there are a number of manufacturers within Australia whose products comply with the mandatory standards. Each of these companies has a duty of care to explain the safety element of AS 4866.1-2007.
"While the regulations are not new, originally introduced in 2007, they were modified so that manufacturers could - meet the standards and stop the trend of dangerous untested goals being manufactured.
"As a result the standards are now enforceable and manufacturers can be held accountable while officials can be held accountable for purchasing dangerous 'untested' goals.
"The safety of children was the driving force for PILA to work with the ACCC to find a solution to the portable goal situation and PILA invested in further research and development to assist the ACCC to find a solution.
"PILA group have always adhered to all building and safety standards and regulations in the manufacturing and design process. Portable goals are a key element in both football games and training because they allow for more technical training and they help to relieve stress on usually overworked fields."
