Marking 20 years of all that is best about leisure
2017 marks a significant milestone for Australasian Leisure Management with it being the 20th anniversary of the launch of this printed magazine.
During the year we will address a number of other aspects relating to our 20 years of publication and will use our experience to look forward, as this vital industry, and its constituent sectors , move into the future.
While traditional print media is widely seen as being in decline, in the past year the readership of this magazine has increased to a circulation of almost 11,000, largely driven by an agreement with the Australian Swim Schools Association that sees its members receive the magazine as a member benefit.
Online, this website is acknowledged as the leading source of news for the industry, with Google Analytics showing that it attracts 35,000 page views each month.
This unique reach – with online news and deeper more analytical features in print – offers suppliers and distributors of products and services an unrivalled opportunity to connect with industry decision makers.
Marketing and Sponsorship
The end of 2016 saw Australasian Leisure Management expand its external marketing, with the presentation of our inaugural Leisure Industry Communication and Marketing Awards, recognised the best in leisure communications and marketing.
We have also completed our first sponsorship, backing the UTS Northside Futsal team completing in the 2016/17 Football NSW Select NSW Premier League competition.
In addition to backing a club with excellent community links that involves male and female athletes from ages eight through to adults, there is a pleasing symmetry in that many staff members of the University of Technology Sydney’s former School of Leisure Studies offered enormous support as this publication was first being developed 20 years ago – prior to the launch of Australasian Leisure Management in early 1997.
For 2017, we are looking for one or more journalists/writers to deliver content for Australasian Leisure Management on business and management topics in the leisure industry in Australia, New Zealand and across Asia.

20 most influential people in Australian leisure management
As part of our ‘20’ theme, the most recent issue of Australasian Leisure Management included a feature on the 20 most influential people in Australian leisure management.
To see who we list, you will have to access the printed Australasian Leisure Management.
(And with apologies to our New Zealand readers, but we only expanded from being ‘Australian’ to ‘Australasian’ in 2001).
