Management plans revised to ensure protection of Maria Island

Management plans revised to ensure protection of Maria Island
October 17, 2020

The Tasmanian Government is revising its management plans for Maria Island - one of Tasmania’s most stunning natural locations – aiming to future-proof it for future generations to enjoy.

The Tasmanian community will be engaged in the development of the revised plans that will ensure protection of its heritage and natural values.

Tasmanian firm “Inspiring Place” has been contracted to oversee the review and update of two documents – the Maria Island National Park and IIe Des Phoques Nature Reserve Management Plan and the Site Plan for Darlington Probation Station World Heritage Site.

Tasmanian Minister for Environment and Parks, Roger Jaensch advises “as one of 11 World Heritage convict sites in Australia, the Darlington Probation Station is a place of extraordinary heritage importance and this will ensure that its management is appropriate and contemporary.

“The community and stakeholders will be invited to provide feedback on discussion papers covering a range of topics, prepared by Inspiring Place, which will be used in drafting the new plans.”

People will be able to track the project and access the discussion papers, once developed, from the project’s Have Your Say page at www.parks.tas.gov.au
