read moreThe new location of what will become the new home of the Tasmania JackJumpers High Performance Centre has been announced. The site, being approximately 5,500 square metres, is situated adjacent to the Kingborough Sports Centre at Kingston View Drive.
The Tasmania JackJumpers are an Australian professional basketball team based in Hobart, Tasmania, who entered the National Basketball League in the 2021–22 season.
The JackJumpers have worked closely with the Tasmanian Government and the Kingborough Council to bring this vision to life, ensuring that the centre will benefit both the club and the local community.
Tasmanian Minister for Sport and Events, Nic Street, advised “being in close proximity to the Kingborough Sports Centre, the High-Performance Centre will support the JackJumpers, providing development pathways for young players and freeing up much needed court space for our community-based competitions.
“Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future places a strong emphasis on delivering state-of-the-art infrastructure projects and the JackJumpers High Performance Centre is a prime example.
“The new centre will turn the facilities available at the Kingborough Sports Precinct into a broader recreational hub, not just for the local community but for the whole State.
“The Department of State Growth has now lodged a development application with Kingborough Council to commence the process.”
“While we have now settled the location for the JackJumpers new High-Performance Centre, we remain committed to building a community facility in Hobart’s Northern Suburbs.”
Tasmania JackJumpers Chief Executive, Christine Finnegan, enthused “the JackJumpers are excited to secure this site as the future home of our High-Performance Centre. This facility will not only meet the high standards of our team’s training needs but will also establish us as a destination club, committed to continuing our mission to Defend the Island.”
Kingborough Council Mayor Paula Wriedt added “our community loves the JackJumpers and have warmly embraced them.
“We know that many of the players have settled here in Kingborough and are becoming part of our community life, buying their homes and enrolling their children into local schools.
“Locating the High-Performance centre near Kingston High School which has a focus on sports, health and wellbeing will enable further opportunities for our young basketball community.
“It also further enhances the Kingborough Sports Precinct as a leading hub for sport and recreation in the state.
“Council will continue to work with the JackJumpers and the State Government to help advance the project.”
