Lighting upgrades make Springwood Tennis Club safer and more inclusive

Lighting upgrades make Springwood Tennis Club safer and more inclusive
January 17, 2025

Blue Mountains Council has advised that major upgrades to Springwood Tennis Club are now complete with new LED floodlighting creating a safer, more inclusive, and female-friendly sporting facility.

The project was supported by a Female Friendly Community Sport Facilities and Lighting grant from the NSW Government and is part of the ongoing revitalisation of the Springwood Tennis Club.

The project involved the replacement of outdated floodlight infrastructure with LED floodlighting. With funding from the club, two synthetic courts were also upgraded to hardcourt surfacing.

Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said the upgrades have helped make Springwood Tennis Club one of the Blue Mountains most impressive sporting facilities.

Mayor Greenhill enthused "we are delighted to see this vision come to life. These enhancements have had a significant impact on the club – it is a really impressive facility.

“The upgrade reflects our commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive community where everyone can enjoy sports and recreation.

“Council extends its gratitude to the NSW Government for their support and collaboration throughout this project, which has resulted in a brighter, more inclusive future for tennis in our region.”

“Supporting this fantastic Club and its members via a grant for an upgraded facility - particularly a safer space for woman and girls - is a bonus for our community,” said Member for Blue Mountains, Trish Doyle.

“I am very pleased our NSW Government is funding this great initiative in Springwood.”

Springwood Tennis Club features 10 synthetic grass courts and two hard courts (11 are floodlit). The club offers a variety of programs as well as casual court hire, events and tournaments.

Mayor Greenhill says there are more improvements to come at the Club adding “I know the Club’s Committee is looking into ways to improve accessibility at the courts, so tennis can be enjoyed by even more people in our community, and I look forward to supporting them in future endeavours.”
