Last chances to register for 25th Annual Global Eco Asia-Pacific Conference
November 16, 2017

Set to be held at the Adelaide Zoo from 27th to 29th November, registrations for the 25th Annual Global Eco Asia-Pacific Conference, the world’s longest running and most respected ecotourism conference, are set to close.

Gathering key tourism operators, protected area managers, tourism organisations, indigenous bodies and researchers from 20 nations, host Ecotourism Australia has brought together an unparalleled group of world leading speakers and panellists to explore the role of zoos, wildlife reserves in tourism and conservation, ecotourism and philanthropy.

Speakers and panelists include:

• Dr. Jenny Gray, President of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums;
• Elaine Bensted, Chief Executive, Zoos South Australia;
• Cameron Kerr, Chief Executive, Taronga Conservation Society;
• Jillian Blackbeard, Marketing Manager, Botswana Tourism Organisation;
• Andrew Wright, General Manager & Master, Calypso Star Charters;
• Hiran Cooray, Owner, Jetwing;
• Keith Sproule, Executive Director, Abercrombie & Kent Philanthropy;
• Anthea Hammon, Managing Director, Scenic World; and
• Atticus Fleming, Chief Executive, Australian Wildlife Conservancy.

In addition to the speaking program, the Conference includes evening functions, to maximise networking, at the heritage listed Ayers House, the spectacular Sanctuary Conference Centre at Adelaide Zoo and a welcome cocktail reception at Government House.

Looking forward to the event, Conference Convenor, Tony Charters said the event is set to pick up on issues that are at the forefront of the ever evolving ecotourism sector.

Charters explained “ecotourism in protected areas is a key issue around the globe.

“The capacity for communities to develop an economic base from ecotourism on protected areas is also a global issue, hence our strong representation of protected area management and ecotourism operator speakers.”

Charters also pointed to the conference’s strong focus on ecotourism based on wildlife, adding “we have speakers from Australia’s top zoos and wildlife tourism operations together with international speakers from wildlife tourism destinations such as Botswana, Brazil and Thailand to examine the topic of wildlife interaction in tourism.”
