Last call for NSW councils to apply for coastal and estuary funding before round closes

Last call for NSW councils to apply for coastal and estuary funding before round closes
August 13, 2021

NSW councils considering applying for grants to assist in managing local coastlines and estuaries through the NSW Government's Coastal and Estuary Grants Program implementation round, are reminded that the round closes on Tuesday 17th August 2021.

NSW Minister for Local Government, Shelley Hancock said councils still have time to submit their applications as this is the last year to apply for implementation actions in certified Coastal Zone Management Plans (CZMPs).

Minister Hancock advises "these grants will help councils plan for the future and protect these unique natural assets which contain native flora and fauna and are popular places for recreation across NSW.

"The 2021-22 Coastal and Estuary Grants Program guidelines were changed this year to enable councils to apply for up to $500,000 in funding to assist with exempt activities that are low-risk actions and do not need to be in a certified plan."

Exempt activities include beach scraping, dune stabilisation, littoral rainforest regeneration, beach access point management, and restoring natural defences to coastal and estuarine hazards.
