Children the stars in campaign to promote junior rugby league

Children the stars in campaign to promote junior rugby league
November 22, 2018

The NRL is looking to the future with some of the game’s youngest up and coming stars kicking-off the campaign for more children to come play junior rugby league across the country.

A total of 22 boys and girls from 19 different grassroots clubs were chosen to star in the campaign from more than 500 applications, which included the progeny of rugby league legends Andrew Johns and Michael Ennis. The campaign will feature across traditional and online media, with junior league players sharing their stories and reasons why they love playing rugby league.

Off the back of some of the strongest rugby league participation figures in recent years, NRL Head of Football – Participation, Pathways and Game Development, Luke Ellis, is eager to see even more kids involved in junior rugby league in 2019. “It’s a different league to what you see on TV,” Mr Ellis said.

“And that’s why hearing the enjoyment rugby league brings these kids in their own words is so important. There’s nothing more enjoyable than seeing kids having fun, running around with their mates on a rugby league field.

We have to ensure that everyone, especially those new to the game, get to experience just how fun, safe and friendly being involved in junior rugby league is.”

Junior rugby league registrations are now open nationally, with more details on local junior clubs and age-specific rule variations available via www.playrugbyleague.com
