Kakadu National Park’s popular Gunlom destination reopens

Kakadu National Park’s popular Gunlom destination reopens
July 4, 2025

One of Kakadu National Park’s most popular and photographed destinations - Gunlom, has today reopened - marking the first time the tourism drawcard has been accessible to the public since 2019.

Located on Jawoyn Country in the southern region of the UNESCO World Heritage dual-listed Kakadu National Park and a popular location heroed in classic Australian film Crocodile Dundee, Gunlom Falls offers a breathtaking natural infinity pool with sweeping views across the escarpment, crystal-clear plunge pools, and shaded picnic areas. The Gunlom campground will also reopen and will operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

With its cascading falls, natural swimming holes and panoramic views, Gunlom Falls is ready to once again enchant visitors from around Australia and the world.

The Kakadu National Park announcements follow this week’s news that the Northern Territory Government has purchased a 30,000 hectare parcel of land to expand the Top End’s Litchfield National Park by 20%, securing public access to pristine bushland, swimming holes, and the beautiful Robin Falls. The game-changing purchase will open up a spectacular new southern section of the park, featuring untouched waterfalls, gorges, hot springs, 4WD tracks and a new dedicated hunting reserve.

Litchfield National Park already receives more than 250,000 visitors each year, with popular sites including Wangi Falls, Buley Rockhole and Florence Falls.

The spectacular Top End continues to shine as a premier destination for visitors seeking off- the-beaten track experiences, ancient Aboriginal culture, abundant wildlife, incredible natural wonders and an unforgettable holiday that is different in every sense.

Tourism NT is the Northern Territory's official tourism body, responsible for promoting the region as a must-visit travel destination, supporting local tourism industry and driving economic growth. A key part of its role is to inspire Australian and international visitors to experience the Territory’s diverse array of events and festivals spanning music, art, culture, motoring, fashion, food, wildlife and more.
