Joint funding secures commencement of new Toodyay Sports Precinct

Joint funding secures commencement of new Toodyay Sports Precinct
July 12, 2019

Construction is soon to commence on the new Toodyay Sports Precinct thanks to funding by the Shire of Toodyay ($6.5 million), the Federal Government ($4.7 million), the Western Australian Government ($1.79 million), the local community ($117,000) and the Bendigo Bank ($100,000).

The $13 million project includes a hockey pitch, four multipurpose netball and basketball courts, four tennis courts, a pavilion with change rooms and an outdoor 25-metre swimming pool.

The new integrated complex will provide a community and sporting hub for Toodyay's 4,500 residents. It is also located adjacent to Toodyay District High School - providing an easy-to-access fitness and social outlet for local young people.

Welcoming the funding for the community, located 85 kilometres north east of Perth, Toodyay Shire President Councillor Brian Rayner, advised "the community is really excited about this project. They are particularly pleased that we have managed to fund eight lanes rather than six in the swimming pool and that we will have 4 dedicated tennis courts.

“This project provides the community with all the facilities that it does not presently enjoy. There is a hockey, soccer and rugby field, four multiuse courts for basketball and netball, a new community pavilion and of course, Toodyay’s long awaited swimming pool.”

Western Australia acting Sport and Recreation Minister Francis Logan added "I commend the people of Toodyay for their commitment and vision towards making this project a reality, especially for the community-building benefits it will provide by bringing locals together for grassroots sport."

The Toodyay Shire Council has appointed ADCO Constructions Pty Limited as the contractor to construct the Toodyay Sport and Recreation Precinct. Project Managers, Limnios & Johns and Architects Cameron Chisolm Nicol will continue their work on the project, together with the Shire and ADCO Constructions.

Construction is due to commence in the next month and will be completed in the third quarter of 2020. This will be followed by the internal fitout.
