Johnson Health Tech names new National Sales Manager for Australasian Commercial Division
August 10, 2018

Johnson Health Tech (JHT) has announced the appointment of Barry McDonald as National Sales Manager for its Australasian Commercial Division.

McDonald, who joined JHT’s Australian subsidiary in 2016 with extensive experience across the commercial fitness industry, will oversee the entire Australian and New Zealand commercial market from the Victoria-based head office.

McDonald has been promoted from his role as National Independent Sales Manager of the Matrix Fitness commercial team after proven success in the role, including multiple partnerships to supply fitness equipment for health club franchises including Fernwood Fitness, Listen To Your Body, Vision Personal Training, Pinnacle Health Clubs and Re-Creation Health Clubs.

Welcoming his new role, McDonald stated “we’re well positioned in Australia to build on the global momentum that Matrix has achieved over the past several years.

“We have built a solid foundation from which we can grow the Matrix brand in Australia, and I am eager to further build on the progress we’ve made to achieve our goals. I’m looking forward to working side-by-side with our outstanding team to continue to create greater value for our customers in a way that helps shape the future of our company.”

An industry professional of over 14 years, McDonald has served in management roles for several fitness companies.

A four-year period at YMCA Victoria saw McDonald rise to the role of Health and Fitness Director, followed by five years with Goodlife Health Clubs in roles of increasing responsibility, including State Fitness Director for Victoria. In 2012, McDonald launched his own business called PT Trainee; an education provider specialising in creating business tools for personal trainers and health professionals.

McDonald then went on to serve as Victorian Account Manager for The Fitness Generation before joining Johnson Health Tech Australia in 2016.

Johnson Health Tech Australia Managing Director, Michael Conlan added “for Johnson Health Tech to become the biggest and best fitness company in Australia, we must have top-class leadership in each and every department we operate.

“Barry McDonald brings to this position experience in leadership, combined with his unique understanding of our industry, our business and the Matrix brand. He will provide the leadership we need to achieve our goals moving forward.”

McDonald takes on his new role from John Mullen, who served eight years at Johnson Health Tech Australia based in its Queensland Office. Mullen has been pivotal in building the Matrix brand in Australia over the last decade, securing partnerships with the FLG Group; parent company of fitness chains Goodlife Health Clubs, Fitness First, Jetts and Zap Fitness, and Lift Brands; parent company to Snap Fitness.

Johnson Heath Tech has also announced the decision to streamline its product portfolio and exclusively offer the new Matrix Fitness Training Cycles in the group cycling space.

Commenting on the change, Conlan added “our brand is gaining significant traction in the commercial fitness industry, and we are certain that this is because of our innovative and premium quality product line.

“We have such faith in the new Matrix Training Cycles that we have chosen to concentrate our group cycle product line to feature only the CXC Training Cycle, CXM Training Cycle and the CXP Target Training Cycle.”
