IWE Group illuminates rooftop Sydney courts
With night play a major growth area in tennis, more clubs and courts are looking for ways to improve their on-court lighting.
Mindful of the need to reduce light spillage, LED lighting offers not only improved illumination but increased revenue and additional playing time along with money saved on electricity bills and maintenance costs.
A remarkable example of these features is the installation by the IWE Group of a state-of-the-art LED lighting installation for two tennis courts located above Sydney’s Paddy’s Markets.
Part of The Peak Apartments development, the two rooftop tennis courts sit high above the Sydney landmark, with IWE Group’s lighting design having to ensure maximum illumination for the courts with minimal light bleed.
IWE Group, an Australian-owned LED lighting company with 25 years’ experience in the vibrant and competitive energy sector is expanding into the sporting arena. Its products, originally designed for the extreme harsh environments of Australian mining sector have been modified to provide sport settings with a flexible complete solution for both indoor and outdoor locations.
With beam angles ranging from 45 to 145 degrees, when installed the lights can be angled to ensure the lumen specifications are easily met.
The chip on board technology allows for more compact design due to their small size. This gives IWE Group the advantage of a more compact design with the chip installed directly onto the heat sink or lighting fixture. This ensures low heat resistance, low glare index and uniform luminance with superior thermal performance for better lifetime, stability and reliability.
Having developed products for extreme environments in mining, ensured that the Sydney-based company enforces the most stringent quality control using only the best components to construct its lights.
Its IP66 accreditation is testimony of its commitment backed by its optical grade lenses being subject to a 5 kilogram drop test while, in order to maintain accreditations, lights are put through some stringent tests including:
• Water Test
• Submerged Water Test
• Humidity Test
• Temperature Test
• Integrated Sphere Test
• Distribution Curve Flux Test
These controlled tests ensure our high level of manufacturing stands but the most definitive test of our products is the success our lights have achieved in the Australian mining sector.
Placed in the most extreme environments, such as mining, where heat, high volume usage and dust combine to impose wear and damage on equipment, IWE Group lights are built to withstand an extreme amount of abuse with the least amount of maintenance, a quality essential for the mining industry.
Since its move into the sporting sector IWE has added a vast number of new features to its lights to ensure it offers the best possible lighting solutions.
These features include:
• Spill proof shields
• Flexible mounting option
• Flexible chasse colours
• Wider flexibility of wattage to fit every application be it a private home tennis court or a large AFL stadium.
• Voltage flexibility 415 or 24 volts
For clients choosing IWE lights for sporting facilities the company provides a complete design service, working directly with the client to ensure needs are met while complying with council regulations. This service includes design simulations, pole placement, lighting options, lens angles and spill control.
An IWE Group spokesperson explains “never before has it been so easy to ensure competition standards and council regulations are met.”
IWE Group’s technology also gives users the flexibility to activate lights individually, so instead of having all the lights turned on (competition level) during a practice session, users can only turn on half thus cutting down on energy use – all at the touch of a button.
