International Sports College Australia Hosts Third Annual Student Sports Summit

International Sports College Australia Hosts Third Annual Student Sports Summit
April 1, 2019

International Sport College Australia (ISCA) and UTS Business School students were recently offered a window into the sports industry at the third annual Sydney Student Sports Summit held at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

The Summit, held on 28th March 2019, was organised by ISCA, in partnership with the University of Technology, Sydney, and was attended by more than 40 students who were addressed by 15 guest speakers, all experts in their fields within the sports industry.

Introducing the event, Summit Director and ISCA General Manager, Ian Evans commented “the purpose of the Sports Summit was to bring to life the strategic goals and values of ISCA - namely, to offer a first-class student experience; to provide a means by which our students can engage with industry leaders within the sports sector; and finally, to demonstrate to our students that ICMS is committed to a culture of excellence.”

The Summit was headlined by former rugby league international Jason Nightingale; Football Federation Australia General Manager of Marketing, Jess Laycock; former Wallaby Mark Gerrard and Rio 2016 Olympian Ed Jenkins.

Other guest speakers were from the fields of strategic sports management, sponsorship, fan engagement, operations and facility management, sports psychology, athlete career education and welfare, and marketing and digital innovation.

Evans added "the Sports Summit was an outstanding success.

“The venue, Bradman Media Centre, overlooking the majestic Sydney Cricket Ground was simply world-class, and to have a range of expert guest speakers from sporting codes such as football, rugby union, AFL, cricket, basketball and rugby league speaking to our students about the innovative changes within their respective sports was an amazing way for our students to connect what they learn in the classroom to what is occurring in the professional sports sector.”

ISCA student and Manly Sea Eagles U20s player Max Lehmann attended the Sports Summit, and said the event gave him the opportunity to network with fellow students and sports colleagues.

Lehmann stated “the summit really opened my eyes to the roles and responsibilities of sports industry professionals and inspired me to continue pursuing my passion of working in the sports sector.”

UTS Sport Management Professor Daryl Adair welcomed the Sports Summit as an excellent addition to the student experience of both institutions. Adair commented “the Summit is significant for a number of reasons. It marks a new era of cooperation with ISCA and, importantly, consolidates the high standing of both organisations with a range of key sport industry stakeholders.

"Furthermore, the Summit provided a great opportunity for students to not only hear and learn from leading experts, but to also interact with them as well as other student in the same field of study.”
