ICC Sydney celebrates diversity as it approaches December opening

ICC Sydney celebrates diversity as it approaches December opening
March 8, 2016

As it prepares for its scheduled December opening, management at the International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) has highlighted its commitment to gender diversity.

Women currently represent 63% of ICC Sydney’s workforce - 56% at a director level and 45% making up the company’s executive team.

ICC Sydney Chief Executive Geoff Donaghy said he expected a level gender split within the workforce to continue as the team grows to its full capacity of over 300 full time and more than 1,200 casual employees.

Donaghy stated “ICC Sydney will continue to apply its commitment to workforce diversity as we grow an extraordinary team to open one of the world’s most exciting venues in December.

“A workplace that attracts people with different perspectives will drive innovation, collaboration and overall productivity.”

ICC Sydney has also partnered with Working Mothers Connect, an industry group that advocates for mothers who are transitioning back into the workforce after an extended break for childbirth or child raising, as it is one of the biggest challenges women can face in their careers.

Other initiatives ICC Sydney supports include participation in the Australian Breastfeeding Association’s Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace program.

ICC Sydney’s diversity strategy is built on four key areas: mature age workers, LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex) workers, youth workers and parents and carers returning to the workforce.

ICC Sydney has also marked a major milestone in the delivery of Sydney’s convention, exhibition and entertainment precinct with the recent lift of the exhibition centre roof – an engineering feat similar to that undertaken on aircraft hangers, bridges and stadiums.

ICC Sydney is the centrepiece of the NSW Government’s $3.4 billion revitalisation of Darling Harbour which includes:

• Three interconnected and flexible buildings that can host world-class conventions, exhibitions and entertainment events
• Vibrant public spaces centred around the expanded green space of Tumbalong Park and linked to the city and its surrounds by a bustling boulevard and pedestrian connections
• 35,000 metre² of internal exhibition space and a 5,000 metre² open air event deck.

ICC Sydney opens in December 2016 with a Feeding Your Performance approach to catering, technology and connections with the city’s talent hubs, learning institutions and thought leaders.
