read moreLord Sebastian Coe, President of world athletics governing body the IAAF, has been revealed as the opening keynote speaker at the 2019 Conference of the Australian and New Zealand Sports Law Association (ANZSLA) in Perth next week.
Lord Coe, an Olympic gold medal winning athlete turned sport administrator, will present an address centred on breaking boundaries during his time with the IAAF.
Being held at Crown Perth on 30th October and 1st November, the Conference program will offer delegates two days of engaging discussion exploring current issues in sports law, as well as a range of social and sporting events where delegates can form and solidify relationships with industry colleagues.
With the conference theme of ‘Breaking Boundaries’, speakers have been asked to use this theme to challenge, inform and entertain.
Open to sport lawyers and those with a legal interest in sport, the Conference will also feature a range of presentations and panel discussions on some of the most topical issues in sports law, including privacy and data protection, ethical decision making and athlete wellbeing.
The conference will close with a tour of Optus Stadium hosted by members of the project team, who will offer insights regarding legal and operational considerations for Western Australia and stakeholders in bringing the new Perth stadium to life.
Conference events will be spread across Crown Resort and Optus Stadium, as well as the riverbank beside the Swan River in between the two main venues.
Writing on the ANZSLA website, Perth Conference Organising Committee co-chairs Helen McShane and Venetia Bennett commented “we thank all members of the Conference Organising Committee who have worked so hard over the past year to develop the program and organise the conference and social activities, and we thank all the sponsors for their generous contribution to the conference.
“We would particularly like to acknowledge the generous support of the Western Australian Government through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
“Thanks also to Martin Ross and the ANZSLA Board for its support.
“We look forward to welcoming you to Western Australia for the 29th annual ANZSLA conference - we are excited to host you in Perth.”
