Thousands of people have descended on ticket booths in Beijing to get their hands on the last batch of Olympic tickets, leading to authorities to have to call in Police reinforcements.

According to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), 820,000 tickets were sold in a matter of hours.

Tickets for a number of high-profile events, including the 110 metres hurdles final, which is likely to feature reigning Olympic champion Liu Xiang, sold out in just half an hour while tickets for diving - another sport in which China excels, also sold out quickly.

Buyers have been restricted to two tickets each.
