HQH Fitness backs YMCA Brisbane’s Cancer survivor program

May 16, 2018

HQH Fitness and the YMCA Brisbane’s Jamboree Heights centre have launched a collaborative partnership that will have the Total Gym® Elevate circuit available for use in a 12-week trial for participants in the YMCA Cancer Survivor program.

The Australia-first program will see the facility host the functional training circuit as part of a complete ecosystem of solutions for YMCA Members.

YMCA Cancer Survivors is a 12 Week physical activity and support program for people who have endured cancer - a cancer survivor being  any person diagnosed with cancer, and includes people living with, through and beyond the disease.

At no cost to the survivor, the YMCA provides a safe exercise program and environment for cancer survivors to gain and reclaim their health and well-being. Perhaps just as important as the physical aspect of the program, participants get the chance to connect with likeminded people on a similar journey. Survivors who have gone through the program, describe the support, empathy and understanding gained through being part of a group as priceless and like nothing they've ever experienced elsewhere.

Announcing the partnership, Xen Angelides, National Commercial Sales Manager for Total Gym Australia explains “this partnership is truly exciting and will offer members a great opportunity to experience a variety of training solutions in one location.”

Michael Tsiamis, Group Manager – Fitness and Recreation at YMCA Brisbane adds “at the YMCA, we’re committed to supporting our friends, families and neighbours in their fight against cancer. “That’s why we offer the YMCA Cancer Survivor Program.

“We are excited to be the first club in Australia to implement Total Gyms Elevate Circuit.

“The product aligns perfectly with our community approach to health and wellbeing. The Elevate circuit and ease with which you can transform a functional space is a great example of how both companies vision for a dynamic training environment is leading the way in functional fitness design.”

YMCA Cancer Survivors focuses on the whole person, not the disease. Instructors also help participants develop their own physical fitness program, so they can continue to practice a healthy lifestyle.

YMCA instructors are trained in the elements of cancer, post rehab exercise and supportive cancer care.

Benefits of being part of the program include: improved muscle mass and strength; increased flexibility and endurance and improved confidence and self-esteem.

Travis Ronaldson Fitness Manager - YMCA Jamboree Heights concluded “we believe the Total gym equipment will give our club a point of difference and be a welcome addition to our group training programs.”

1st September will see the first Cancer Survivor Gala Ball - with the goal of raising $50,000 - the starting point to facilitate the YMCA Cancer Survivor Program going out in the greater community of south east Queensland.
