Gym wear becomes lifestyle wear
Leading gym wear supplier Devotion Active Wear have recently expanded its client base from stocking gyms and boutiques in Australia to new markets in the UK and USA.
Created and managed by husband and wife team, Greg and Karen Mill, Devotion's stylish and practical range of clothing is designed by Karen (who has studied fashion and pattern making) while Greg helps with the behind the scenes work, as well as offering motivation and inspiration.
Karen was inspired to create a gym wear line because women were constantly telling her they couldn't find "workout wear that combines with fashion."
The pieces in the collection can be mixed and matched so there are heaps of options. One aspect of the line that really sets it apart from its competition is that the garments item will adapt to different body shapes - fitting sizez 6-12 as a result of the 360 degree stretch and flexibility in the clothes.
It's very popular with pregnant women because the piece will stretch, but after the pregnancy will mould to their normal shape again.
As Greg Mill explains, gym wear is "no longer an outfit that you wouldn't be caught dead in at the shops or having a coffee in.
"(Our gym wear is) colorful, it's cool but it's also supportive and practical for a workout. Nike and adidas have long dominated the market share in gym wear, but new brands are popping up and they're just as cool and colorful, and perhaps even a little bit easier on the hip pocket! "
The Devotion Active Wear collection offers two types of Capri pants (including leggings that have a fold over which can even be lifted up and used like control shaping pants), three styles of shorts (the bike shorts are popular with girls that learn pole dancing for fitness), four tops (a couple of styles include bodice and racer-back), two crop tops (the New Zealand beach volleyball team wear Devotion's crop tops), and three jackets (including a super warm hoodie for those cold early mornings at the gym).
Greg Mill adds "there are heaps of fancy and technical terms to describe the benefits of the gym wear, but put simply (in our garments), you won't feel yourself sweat!
"'Moisture wicking' is used in all high performance attire and it draws the sweat from your body to the material, straight through to the outside. (There are) no more excuses for that bad smell in the weights room!
"And if you're sick of drab black in the gym and want something to put a smile on your face when you're doing pushups, then Devotion's range of colors will satisfy. There's grape, jade, cherry, sunshine and many others. Base colors for the range are smoke (a grey hue) and black.
"Coming into spring, colorful clothes are a big trend."
Mindful of a market for the larger gym-going yet style conscious woman, in October Devotion will launch a range of larger sizes to fit size 14-20 women.
The range has only being commercially available since February but there are big plans for this business. Currently, the stock is available at various gyms, yoga and pole dancing studios, tennis clubs, as well as a new market; gym wear parties, "just like a Tupperware", according to Greg Mill.
