Green spaces ‘crucial’ for promoting physical exercise
A Danish study has suggested that people living close to green space are more likely to be physically active than those living in an area with no green spaces.
The study team from Syddansk Universitet (the University of Southern Denmark) report that people living closer to green spaces not only used the space for physical activities but were also more likely to be active in other areas of their lives ï¾ such as being members of a fitness club.
People living more than one kilometre from green space had higher odds of being obese (a BMI index of 30 or more) than those living less than 300 metres from green space.
The report, Distance to Green Space and Physical Activity: A Danish National Representative Survey, was published in Human Kinetics' Journal of Physical Activity & Health.
