Gold’s Gym announces winner of their global challenge
Gold’s Gym has announced that the winner of their 12 week global challenge in March this year is Secret Harbour’s Steven Cook - a PE teacher and a member of the Port Kennedy Gold’s Gym located in Perth, Western Australia.
With support of the Gold’s Gym team, Cook achieved an impressive weight loss of 11.1kg during COVID-19 restrictions.
Gold’s Gym Australia and New Zealand, Chief Operating Officer, Glen Farrow, says he is proud of all the clubs that participated in the inaugural Australian challenge even though all the gyms across the country were forced to close.
Farrow adds “our Gold's Gym mission is 'to create a healthier world' and by helping people achieve their potential through fitness we will often be transforming that person's life. We should all do whatever we can to elevate each other. Through our clubs, we encourage everyone to be their best in a healthy but competitive growth environment.”
Port Kennedy Gold’s Gym franchise owners Chad and Amy Francis and their team are ecstatic for Cook who came out with incredible results while participating under testing circumstances.
Chad Francis notes “this has been a year like no other and Steve should be commended for his determination and ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
“Best of all he is motivated to continue to improve and his next goal is to compete in the Mullaloo triathlon in October and then Goldfields Pipeline Marathon.
“We are so proud of his achievements and he is a wonderful advocate of the results that can be achieved by being a member of the Gold’s Gym community.”
Cook took on the 12 week global challenge in March this year after gaining excess kilograms since relocating from Kalgoorlie twelve months ago.
Cook explains “I was really looking for some motivation to improve my diet and generate better exercise habits and the opportunity to do this at my local gym as part of a global community really appealed to me.
“There were lots of personal challenges along the way and I fought hard mentally and physically to stay consistent and motivated as the Coronavirus pandemic forced the closure of our gym and my role in the classroom as a PE teacher was totally reinvented to an on-line environment.
“The hardest thing for me was staying disciplined with nutrition and dealing with all the changes at work. My workload picked up massively and I was sitting in front of a computer all day.
“When the gym was forced to close I had very little equipment at home, it was definitely tough mentally to keep going but I thrived in the ‘challenge community’ as they kept me accountable and motivated to push hard each day.
Cook added “I’ve since gone on to represent Gold's Gym Australia at the International Challenge and was judged 4th place from 29 countries across 6 continents, this was a real highlight and it has motivated me to work hard to get my weight under 100kgs and take on more challenges.”
The next Gold’s Gym Global Challenge will take place in early 2021 with great national prizes for the winner along with the opportunity to be invited to the Gold’s Gym global convention in Las Vegas.
