Gold Coast welcomes Pacific rugby league teams

Gold Coast welcomes Pacific rugby league teams
April 28, 2015

All four teams competing in the Pacific Test Double Header on Saturday night (2nd May) at Cbus Super Stadium have been welcomed to the Gold Coast.

Players from Samoa, Tonga, Fiji and Papu New Guinea assembled on the Gold Coast ahead of the historic double header on Saturday night.

They were officially welcomed to the region by Gold Coast City Mayor Tom Tate at Dreamworld amusement park.

Looking forward to the games, NRL Head of  Football Todd Greenberg stated "the Pacific Test double header will be an incredible spectacle.

“All four nations have named extremely strong, talented squads. The success of Samoa at last year’s Four Nations highlighted the talent available in the Pacific and to have these players come together on one night on the Gold Coast will be wonderful to see.

“The NRL is fully supportive of the region through our Pacific Strategy and I can’t wait to see the talent in the Pacific showcased in two Test matches.”

In his official to the city, Mayor Tate added "it’s fantastic to see this event here on the Gold Coast.

“One of the key elements of our Sport Plan is to grow our reputation as a sporting events capital and it’s events like this that are helping us get there."

In addition to the Pacific Test double header on Saturday, the Junior Kangaroos will face off against the Junior Kiwis.
