Former MSAC head Simon Weatherill appointed interim AUSTSWIM Chief Executive
October 5, 2021

The Board at AUSTSWIM has today announced the appointment of experienced senior industry executive Simon Weatherill as its interim Chief Executive.

A statement from AUSTSWIM advised “in a new era at AUSTSWIM, Simon brings a wealth of industry involvement with strong connections in the sports, leisure and education sectors.

“With significant local government and private sector experience as CEO of the State Sports Centres trust from 1995-2015, his skills in business management and stakeholder engagement will lead the AUSTSWIM team through until June 2022.”

Outgoing Chief Executive Carl Partridge has resigned from AUSTSWIM, with the Board would like to thank him for his service and commitment to AUSTSWIM and wish him every success in the future.

AUSTSWIM advised that the Board anticipates conducting its Annual General Meeting in December, with a notice to be issued in the coming weeks.

Undertaking a range of consultancy in recent years, prior to 2015 Weatherill was Chief Executive of the Victorian State Sport Centre Trust (Melbourne Sports Hub), having joined the business during the construction of Melbourne Sport and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) in 1995.

During his time with the Trust he was responsible for the development of one of the largest aquatic venues in the world, also expanding the sporting hub to include a number of additional state-of-the-art facilities including the Lakeside Stadium, the State Netball & Hockey Stadium and Sports House.

Weatherill (pictured) has also been a frequent contributor to Australasian Leisure Management.
