Final major release of tickets for Gold Coast Commonwealth Games

Final major release of tickets for Gold Coast Commonwealth Games
November 20, 2017

The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) is today releasing the final major tranche of tickets next year’s Games (GC2018).

Within a total allocation of 300,000 tickets that will be available on a first-come, first-served basis an  allocation of 100,000 tickets are being made available to the general public for the first time.

To celebrate the final major release of tickets, Australian netball captain Caitlin Bassett and leading Australian gymnast, Luke Wadsworth have announced that an 10,000 additional tickets will be released for the netball finals and the artistic and rhythmic gymnastics which will all be held at the Coomera Indoor Sports Centre.

Bassett said the final major release of tickets was exciting for netball fans right around Australia, commenting “it’s great to know that netball fans still have an opportunity to purchase tickets to the GC2018 netball competition including the preliminary matches at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre and the finals here at the Coomera Indoor Sports Centre.

“Netball is in such a great place at the moment in Australia and we know the GC2018 netball competition is going to be hotly contested between the best nations in the world.

“It’s fantastic to set foot in this world class venue today and being here only reinforces our excitement as we head towards GC2018.”

Wadsworth, who was the 2016 Australian All-Around champion, has already tasted Commonwealth Games action in Glasgow 2014 and has his sights firmly set on qualifying for GC2018.

He advised “the GC2018 gymnastics competition is going to showcase world class athletes in both artistic and rhythmic disciplines.

“It’s great for our sport to see how popular Gymnastics was during the ticket request phase and even better to know that spectators still have the chance to purchase tickets to Gymnastics through this final major release of tickets.”

GOLDOC Chief Executive Mark Peters explained the rationale behind the additional tickets being made available to the general public, concluding “the final major release of tickets comes after GOLDOC was able to identify as many additional tickets as possible through the completion of venue seating plans, temporary structures, sight lines and camera positions, along with any tickets which have been returned to the general ticket sales pool from Games delivery partners.”

To be held during the Easter school holidays from 4th to 15th April 2018, Games’ ticket prices start from as little as $20 for adults and $10 for children and includes free public transport on event day within the South East Queensland TransLink public transport network, the Cairns TransLink bus network and on the Townsville qconnect bus network when a valid event ticket is presented.
